“Design is thinking made visual” is the timeless quote by typographer and graphic design icon Saul Bass. Our design aspirations are equally timeless, and yet always modern.

And yet, our subjective understanding of aesthetics never remains static, but is constantly being adapted to the zeitgeist. During this process, we seek inspiration in the finer things in life: in architecture, music, performing arts, and – for the fresh perspective that we all need every now and again – in travel.

CASE STUDY // Fashionsustain: a new conference format for sustainable technologies and responsible innovations in fashion

During Berlin Fashion Week in January 2018, Messe Frankfurt launched the new Fashionsustain conference format. As its strategic partner, KERN is responsible for the entire brand identity.

Visualising a new, contemporary conference format

 

In autumn 2017, a completely new conference format was taking shape in the minds of the decision-makers at Messe Frankfurt: Fashionsustain – an incubator platform that brings together international keynote speakers and new formats for a multidisciplinary, interactive discourse. The challenge was to swiftly design a brand identity that reflects the future-orientated innovation themes of the event in a 360-degree branding and communications concept and which, in doing so, visualises the conference title “Run for Circularity” in an industry-relevant and modern way.

Creating a complete brand identity

 

From the sketch to reality: From the initial layout and communications concept to the development of wording and logo design, to the creation of a key visual; from the website to regular visitor newsletters to flyers and posters; from press releases and a social media campaign to teaser clips with voice-overs or animations to the design of elements inside the conference venue: all these services were included in our full-service package for Messe Frankfurt.

Fashionsustain becomes part of a global hub

 

The result was an exceptionally successful debut event that more than exceeded the organiser’s expectations. The conference format is being continued and is well on the way to becoming an integral part of the global hub for future fashion and sustainable innovation in Berlin.
